Toddler allegedly found in ‘cage’ at Australian workplace

A child was reportedly found locked in a cage at an industrial site in the Northern Territory.

Authorities are investigating the incident, which is believed to have occurred at a workplace on Stuart Highway.

“NT WorkSafe can confirm that NT Police have raised a safety issue after receiving reports that a young child had been secured in inappropriate conditions at a workplace,” the agency said in a statement today.

“Inspectors have launched an investigation into the incident.”

Police alerted the security watchdog on Thursday.

The boy was allegedly about two years old and was placed in a makeshift safe enclosure, described by witnesses as a cage, NT News reports.

Territory Families is also investigating the matter.

“The safety of children is our top priority and we take any allegations of child harm seriously,” the agency said in a statement.

“We are aware of this matter and are investigating it.”

NT Police declined to comment on the incident.
