BCWS crews fighting Drinkwater Road wildfire near Spences Bridge

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is responding to a wildfire about 5 kilometers north of the Spences Bridge.

The service says the Drinkwater Road bushfire was first discovered on Friday, May 24.

As of Saturday morning, the wildfire was reported to be 51 hectares in size and “out of control.”

BCWS says it is on the east side of the Thompson River, opposite side of the river from the Trans-Canada Highway.

“The wildfire is burning on a steep slope and exhibiting range 3 and 4 fire behavior, meaning a vigorous surface fire with a moderate rate of spread,” he said. “No structures are currently threatened.”

The service says three initial attack teams and response officers were dispatched with support from two helicopters when the bushfire was first discovered.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by humans.
