Finidi George reveals Super Eagles team release date for World Cup qualifiers

New Super Eagles coach Finidi George has indicated when he will announce his squad list ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Benin Republic’s Squirrels in June for the continuation of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

As other African countries began to publish their squad lists for the international break, questions were raised about when the former Ajax striker will announce his list.

In a press conference attended by Footballnet.ngFinidi explained that the delay is due to the recovery status of some players who could still remain in the squad.

“The list will be out this week. Hopefully it’ll be out this week, so let’s be a little patient. The league is just finishing and we have to see who is 100 percent because we are receiving reports from our medical staff about some injured players. So we have to give them some time to see if they can be on the list or not. But I definitely know that this weekend everyone will see it for themselves,” he said.

The former Nigerian international is looking forward to his debut match as coach of the Super Eagles, with the clash against South Africa scheduled to take place at the Nest of Champions in Uyo in June. He will hope for a victory to start his tenure on a positive note.
