Retired Ghanaian boxer and comedian Braimah Kamoko, better known as Bukom Banku, has provided insight into his lineage, tracing his family roots to Mali.

Bukom Banku detailed that he is originally from Mali and ended up in Ghana due to some decisions of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah.

On the Onua Show Time program, Banku explained that he is part of the third generation of a Malian family that was brought to Ghana by Kwame Nkrumah to carry out cleaning activities in the country’s cities.

He revealed that his grandfather settled in Ghana after Kwame Nkrumah brought them here.

However, Banku revealed that he does not know any of his family members in Mali, but is familiar with his mother’s side.

“I am not originally Ghanaian. I am from a town in Mali. Kwame Nkrumah took our grandparents cleaning gutters in Ghana and that’s how we ended up here. The Alis are originally from Mali, but Kwame Nkrumah brought them to Ghana to clean Ghanaian sewers, and my grandfather was part of that.

“He gave birth to Amadou (Banku’s father), Amadou gave birth to Braimah and I gave birth to Tilapia. I am half Malian and half Ghanaian, but I don’t know my family in Mali. I only know my mother’s relatives,” she said.

Bukom Banku was recently in the news when he revealed that he would rather work as a security man abroad than in Ghana.

Banku told Property FM that moving abroad increases the chances of improving your financial fortunes.

“When your money is about to run out, you should save some money and leave this country. If I am made a security guard at Marina Mall, people will come and laugh at me. But if I leave Ghana and work somewhere else, I will be respected when I come back,” she said during an interview with Property FM.

He continued: “If I go to London right now, I won’t come back. Take me to Canada; “I’ll go and be a security man there and I won’t come back.”
