The noise about Chelsea’s new manager continues, with report after report after report being released basically every few hours at the moment.

A lot of names are mentioned, and one seemingly mysterious name is also mentioned. Basically, I think Chelsea seem to be doing everything they can to operate quietly when appointing this new manager, but the media has their names and is publishing.

Sources: Two sources report Chelsea’s interest in the manager’s name which has not yet been informed!

The BBC is the latest outlet to publish its report, written by Nizaar Kinsella, who appears to move from The Evening Standard to the BBC. Nizaar has always written about Chelsea and has contacts on that side.

He claims Chelsea have drawn up an early list of managerial options, which includes Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca and Brentford’s Thomas Frank.

McKenna, who would cost more than £4million in compensation, is believed to be the favorite as Chelsea target a quick appointment.

It’s interesting that he mentions that Chelsea want a quick appointment, but he also says that this is an “early” shortlist of managers, suggesting that the search is not at all advanced.

Regardless, Chelsea will need to hire a new manager as soon as possible with the next pre-season just around the corner and also with a summer transfer window about to open.

None of these names are very inspiring.

Chelsea would not be expected to target Championship managers to lead the team next season, but this is apparently the route they are considering as part of their strategy. They want a young, promising manager rather than a proven one, just as they have done with the formation of their much-criticised young team!

Designating any of the above names would present a HUGE risk.
