Lagos police identify officer who strangled Uber driver

The Lagos State Police Command has identified the police officer seen in a viral video strangling an Uber driver who was moving on a highway.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed this in a post on X.com on Thursday, stating that the officer serves in the command’s Mosafejo Division.

Hundeyin wrote: “The officer has been identified. He serves in the Mosafejo Division. “We would appreciate the driver’s testimony so that we can take the necessary measures.”

In addition, he condemned both the driver and the police officer for behaving in a “reckless manner,” and blamed the driver for “kidnapping” the officer.

He added: “Both men obviously behaved recklessly. But let’s start from the beginning.

“Why choose to kidnap a police officer despite his dangerous method of trying to stop you? You remained determined to take him against his wishes.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that the Nigerian Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, called for an investigation into the viral video that showed the police officer holding the neck of the driver while a lady in the car screamed for help.
