Georgie Copeland’s boyfriend died in the Hunter Valley bus crash, less than three years after her fiance’s death.

Georgie Copeland learned her boyfriend had died in the horror Hunter Valley bus crash in New South Wales, less than three years after her fiancé died in a car crash.

Copeland was still mourning the loss of her fiancé Lachlan Proctor, who had died just before Christmas in 2020, when she met Zach Bray.

Although she thought she would never find love again, Copeland and Bray began dating and she slowly began to let love back in.

But Copeland’s world was turned upside down again when Bray was one of 10 people killed in the Hunter Valley bus crash in New South Wales in June 2023.

Copeland spoke about the tragedy in Darling, Shine! podcast, which describes the heartbreaking way he discovered Bray had been murdered.

After her fiance died from complications as a result of a car accident, Copeland said she struggled with her mental health.

He met Bray after spending time at a health clinic in Byron Bay.

After a rocky start to their relationship and recently reuniting after time apart, Copeland said he did not accompany Bray to the wedding at the Wandin Estate in Lovedale.

But she said she had helped him get dressed for the event and was receiving videos and messages from him throughout the night.

The next morning when he woke up there was no message from Bray.

“That was really weird because he’s one of those guys that texts you ‘good morning’ and lets you know they’re thinking about you,” Copeland said.

When she still hadn’t heard from him by noon, she thought he must have had a great night at the wedding.

Instead, Copeland called her mother and they talked about how happy she was now.

“I’m on my horse talking about how happy I am,” he said.

Copeland said her mother responded: “You’re absolutely right, there are so many bad things happening in this world. Did you hear about that terrible accident in the Hunter Valley?”

Copeland said her mother explained that a bus had crashed while she was taking people home from a wedding.

“I just stopped,” he said.

“Zach was on that bus, I just knew it.”

She tried calling Bray’s phone, but got no answer, before calling her mother.

“I didn’t know if his family knew that we were back together, that we were starting over,” she said.

“I didn’t know what they knew, but I knew something was wrong and I called their mother.”

Copeland said Bray’s mother responded by crying and was heading to the Hunter Valley with her family.

After Bray’s death, Copeland said he “went to a dark place” as he struggled with yet another loss.

“I thought, ‘I’m damned, who’s going to want to date this girl?’” she said.

“I don’t come with luggage, I come with a proper briefcase.”

Despite his losses, Copeland decided to come back to life and travel the world, telling the podcast that he “started saying yes to everything.”

“Life is short, tomorrow is not promised,” he said.

“If I die tomorrow, I know I’m happy because I actually take everything as a form of gratitude. I’m very lucky.

“I am lucky to have been loved by Lachie Proctor. I’m lucky to have met Zach Bray. I’m not cursed. “I am the luckiest human being in the world.”
