“It is to be expected” | Lopetegui will reunite with his former West Ham star

West Ham plan to reunite a Premier League captain with Julen Lopetegui.

It’s no secret that West Ham need a complete rebuild of their entire squad. However, more than anything, they need an overhaul of their defensive line. Aside from Mavropanos, all of their central defenders have been woeful this season, especially since the turn of the year.

There has been a lack of cohesion and leadership among the centre-backs, which is particularly worrying when Zouma is West Ham’s captain. Fortunately, this is something the recruiting team is clearly aware of, as they appear to be targeting experienced players with leadership qualities.

Fabricio Bruno is already said to be close to joining the Hammers and is a perfect fit. Fortunately, they won’t stop there as, according to Jack Rosser, they are also planning a move for Max Kilman.

The Wolves captain was someone the club showed interest in in January, but was unwilling to match his team’s asking price at the time. However, just a few months later, things look very different.

Aside from his excellent defensive skills, his roots in futsal mean he is also very good on the ball. Furthermore, he will help the Hammers meet the home quota and he is someone you would expect to slot straight into the starting XI, especially considering he played with Lopetegui previously.

Frustratingly, his price has not dropped at all, and Wolves will demand £45m for his signature. Considering how many players our Irons need to bring in in the coming months, that could be a big hurdle, even more so now that Paqueta looks unlikely to secure his £85m move to Manchester City.
