But reported today that Sainz is in “advanced talks” with Williams over a 2025 deal with Alex Albon.

Williams has already begun to prioritize the development of its 2025 and 2026 cars during this year’s campaign, and there is initial optimism about its long-term potential given its transition to Mercedes engines in 2026.

Team boss James Vowles said: “The 2025 car is in the tunnel, it’s as simple as that. “And you’re doing that to get ahead in time for 2026 and 2027. My messages will remain the same throughout: It’s not that I don’t care about these years (before 2026), but that I want us to be successful in the future.

“To do that, I have to make some pretty tough decisions to transform the organization.”

Williams achieved an impressive seventh place in the constructors’ championship last season, but is currently ninth this season, having not earned a single point so far.

The report claimed that “Red Bull is likely to keep Sergio Perez on a one-year deal and Mercedes move towards promoting Andrea Kimi Antonelli from F2.”

Given the strong possibility that Pérez will only get a one-year deal with Red Bull, Sainz could sign a single-year deal with Williams (or Sauber, for that matter) and hope to move to Red Bull in 2026.

Sainz responded today in Monaco to speculation about his future.

“Behind the scenes I know more,” he said. “You have the rumors and everything, but don’t worry, I’m not going to let anything slip.

“I’m going to put all options on the table and make the right decision. I can only tell you that once I open my mind, everything will happen very quickly. “It’s about putting together everything I feel I need in my next new contract.”

Andrea Kimi Antonelli, 17, is currently competing in his first F2 campaign in a stunning rise that has seen him skip F3 entirely.

The FIA has already received a special dispensation request for Antonelli to obtain a Super License before he turns 18 in August, meaning he could compete in F1 as early as this season.

Max Verstappen today offered advice for the youngster should he make his F1 debut, while George Russell was also asked about the possibility of partnering with the youngster next season.

“I think Kimi is a fantastic driver, obviously he competes in Formula 2 this year, but he will certainly be a Formula 1 driver in the future,” Russell said. “He’s also a fellow junior driver, he (has) risen through the ranks like I did with the team, so I think it’s a great opportunity for Mercedes to move into the future.

“As I said before, I would welcome anyone as my teammate. I feel like I have a pretty good teammate right now.”
