Man sues Apple for Rs 53 crore after wife deleted private chats with found sex workers

The man attributed the ordeal to Apple incorrectly notifying him that his messages had been deleted.

Man sues Apple: American tech giant Apple is being blamed and sued by a man after his wife found deleted messages on a linked computer. Deleted messages read by the man’s wife revealed that she had been arranging meetings with sex workers or prostitutes, The Times reports.

The man has admitted to seeing sex workers and arranging meetings via iMessage. However, he deleted the messages and assured that this would keep his actions a secret. The businessman is filing a lawsuit against Apple for 5 million (approximately Rs 53 crore), alleging that the company fails to notify customers that messages deleted from one device may still be visible on other Apple devices.

When his wife opened the app on her iMac, she saw that his last message on someone else’s iPhone was to a sex worker. He later found several years of supposedly deleted messages to prostitutes, The Times said.

When someone is informed that a message has been deleted, they have the right to trust that it has indeed been deleted, he told the newspaper. He acknowledged that it was hard for his wife to discover what he had been doing that way.

The man reflected that, if he had managed to talk to her calmly and she had not suffered such a rude awakening, “he would still be married.”

He described divorce as an “extraordinarily stressful” process, particularly when children and family dynamics come into play. He attributed the ordeal to Apple incorrectly notifying him that his messages were deleted, which they were not. He mentioned that a message confirming the deletion on that device would have served as a useful indication.
