At your age, I would like the younger ones to respect me – Obi answers Soyinka

Labor Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has said he would always want the younger ones to respect him when he reaches the age of Noble Laurette, Professor Wole Soyinka.

Obi said that as a matter of policy as a parent, he does not respond when his parents speak.

He made the statement while answering questions on Arise Television’s news program on Wednesday.

The statement came after Soyinka said Obi was unfit to govern Nigeria.

He alleged that Obi was inciting his followers to attack and insult him, especially online.

However, speaking on the sidelines of the Democracy Day celebration, Obi said he had never, consciously or unconsciously, asked the Obidients or the younger ones to say anything against anyone.

He said: “Well, frankly, I won’t comment on it. Wole Soyinka is a father. I have a policy as a parent: I don’t respond when my parents talk. He left it to them because when I was their age, I would like those younger ones to respect me. Although I would try to put myself in a position where he would respect me before that.

“But one of those who spoke is about me inciting the ‘Obidients’. I assure you that I have never, and I will never, knowingly or unknowingly, ask the Obidientes or the younger ones to say anything against a priest, imam or elder; It will never happen.

“I don’t comment. It is up to Nigerians to know whether I am fit or not. I have been a successful businessman in the private sector. I have been in the business world and I will say that I am one of the most successful.

“I have also served in the state and I ask those who attack to let us put our records and verify them side by side.”
