Ethiopia’s coffee industry exported 210,000 tonnes in just 10 months and raked in $1 billion, according to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA).


The authority’s director general, Dr. Adugna Debala, highlights a significant increase compared to last year. However, the country planned to reach $1 billion in coffee exports by February 2024, recording coffee revenues of $716.35 million, representing 67% of the initial goal of the top eight. months of the current fiscal year.

During the previous Ethiopian fiscal year, the East African country earned $1.3 billion in revenue from exporting around 240,000 tons of coffee.

Saudi Arabia remains the top destination for Ethiopian coffee, closely followed by South Korea and the United States. Other major destinations include Germany, Japan, Belgium, China, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Italy. Ethiopia exports its coffee to between 50 and 60 countries.
